Sixa Оpens Pre-Orders for Rivvr – a Device for Wireless-VR from $ 200
Sixa launches pre-orders for the Rivvr device. The first batch is limited by only 4000 orders. Rivvr for wireless connection of VR-helmets looks like a small box with the headset connected by three cables – USB, HDMI and power. The technology works on 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi networks thanks to its propriety compression technology that can shrink a 10Gb data stream to 40Mbits. Sixa runs a cloud-based desktop hosting service, and the company adapted its cloud hosting compression algorithms to the Rivvr VR system for use with high-end VR systems such as the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.
Currently, Sixa offers two versions of Rivvr. Rivvr Lite weighs 400 grams, with a three hours battery and trouble-free operation, which is fixed directly to the helmet strap. There is also a Rivvr Plus, which weighs 600 grams and is equipped with a more powerful battery that can work up to five hours and is fixed on the player’s belt. The price of Rivvr Lite is $ 200, and Rivvr Plus – $ 250.
In November 2016 Sixa raised a $3.5 million seed fund in a round led by Tandem Capital. Digital Future and Horizon Capital have also taken part in the deal. Sixa is a cloud-computing startup company that lets the users on-demand access to a personal virtual computer. The company was founded in September 2015, and is headquartered in San Francisco, California.
